Review for Lost City by James |
Gameplay |
The gameplay seems to follow the standard format of the text-based RPG of developing your character in competition with everyone else. It would be nice to see more instances where I'm made to think about something or put my mind to work on solving a problem, although maybe that comes later on into the game.
Storyline |
The storyline and setting of how your character came to an inhabitant of the island is quite imaginative and original compared to the much over-used "Um, yeah, you're like... some guy in a town, enjoy", which can be see in many fledgling RPGs.
Graphics |
The choice of background colour for the game interface could be viewed as garish or questionable, but mostly the interface is competently done. As with all text-based games, the quality of graphics is quite limited as they do not form a large part of the interface.
Difficulty |
The difficulty level of browser-based RPG games overall is fairly limited to mostly just testing your ability to wait for stats to recharge. Lost City introduces a new element to the game, in the form of being jailed for periods of time if getting caught when committing crimes.
Security |
The game incorporates some new and quite original features, whilst maintaining some of the classic features of the online text-based rpg, such as the town layout.
Compatibility |
Lost City uses PHP and standard HTML, as such there is nothing to install and the game is completely compatible with standard browsers.
Support |
So far I haven't had much need to ask for support. Taking a quick browse through the support forum, it's apparent that the staff are both friendly and helpful, and the game community is quite willing to help each other. Additionally, there is a very comprehensive FAQ section that would provide a good amount of reading.
